1991 Notes: (A) The total area of the site is 1.15 Acres and forms an irrecular parcel with frontages of about 330 feet on Longfellow and 200 feet on Wythe. The three apartment buildings hide the parking lot that is accessible from Bryant Avenue/ It is a small part of the 35 Acres of farm land acquired by the Chautauqua Assembly in 1888 that increased the total area within the Grounds to 174 Acres. (B) In only 14 years the original 50 Acres at Fairpoint, New York purchased by The Chautauqua Sunday School Assembly had grown to reach 80% of its present size of 216 Acres within the fence and had its own Post Office called Chautauqua (C) From 1944 to 1957 the Columbus Boys Choir conducted summer sessions here and housed the boys in several frame barn-like buildings that stood approximately where the Overlook Condo parking lot is located/ Some old maps indicate "Barracks Area." (D) Across Longfellow from the Overlook - The Arboretum - is a public garden maintained by the Chautauqua Bird, Tree and Garden Club/ The Plazue near the entrance on Wythe conveys this message: THIS ARBORETUM WAS ERECTED AND LOVINGLY TENDED BY MISS HENRIETTA ORD JONEES IN WHOSE HOME* THE CHAUTAUQUA BIRD AND TREE GARDEN CLUB WAS ORGANIZED ON JULY 29, 1913 SYMBOLIC OF HER LIFE, MAY THIS QUIET SPOT GIVE INSPIRATION AND PURPOSE TO ALL WHO LOVE BEAUTY

*Miss Jones spent about forty summers in the cottage at the North Easterly corner of Whittier and Wythe, until her death in 1946
