NORTH END of the GROUNDS

Most of the 35 acres making up the North End were acquired in 1908 but not developed until 1949 or later. The exception was the 6.5 acre strip abutting the Wahmeda Community that the Institution sold to William D. Packard of Warren, Ohio in 1915.
The First Allotment included 46 lots; 14 along the lake side of N. Lake Drive and 32 others on side streets named Prospect, Maple, Evergreen, Oak and North for one block up to Pratt. (Lot #1500s)
Second group offered for sale were 12 along the lake side of N. Lake Dr. to what is now Elm Lane plus four on North Avenue. (Lot # 1600s)
Third had 20 on Maple, Evergreen and Oak from Pratt to Hedding. (Lot #1700s)
Chautauqua reacquired the Packard Manor property in 1953, had it surveyed and set off six lots, five near the lake and one for the Gatehouse at the top of Elm Lane. (PM Lots) Most of the area between Elm Lane and Wahmneda became the site for the condominium development called NorthShore at Chautauqua.
Fifth Allotment had 22 lots on Elm Lane, Gebbie and Hazlett Drives. (New streets in 1985) (Lot # 1800s)
Sixth was the sale of about two acres of vacant land south of Elm Lane between Hedding Avenue and the boundry fence of the Institution for the twenty-nine townhouses named The PINES at North Shore.
