1879 Chautauqua Lake Sunday School Assembly lease: Mrs. John Heyl Vincent (Elizabeth D.), Plainfield, NJ/ In 1874 the Reverend John H. Vincent was Chautauqua's co-founder with industrialist Lewis Miller of Akron, Ohio/ Mr. Vincent was born February 23, 1832 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and was moved to Pennsylvania when still a boy/ His Bible Lesson System, developed for the Methodist Church Sunday Schools, was used by many church schools of other denominations/ In 1888 Mr. Vincent was elected a Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church/ He retired in 1904 but continued his speaking and writing until his peaceful death at his Chicago home May 9, 1920 at age of 88
1909 Estate: Elizabeth Dusenbury Vincent died testate March 30, 1909/ Son, George Edgar Vincent, Executor/ Note: George E. Vincent was the 1907 to 1915 President of Chautauqua Institution
