Welcome to our Online Collections Database
Chautauqua Institution Archives is both a collection repository and an Institution repository, receiving records from Chautauqua Institution as well as through the acquisition of papers, records and artifacts from sources that are not administratively affiliated with the Institution.
Chautauqua Institution Archives identifies, organizes, preserves and protects records and artifacts which add to the general and scholarly understanding of the Chautauqua Institution and the Chautauqua Movement.
This collection database provides access to a large portion of Chautauqua Institution Archive's holdings, including objects, photographs, and Property Files. To complete your search of our virtual collection items, you may also wish to search our Digitized Collections, which include copies of Chautauqua Newspapers (1876-2006) and CLSC Magazines (1880-1914).
Although the databases are updated regularly, not all of our collections are searchable online. If you are unable to find what you are looking for, please contact the staff directly. Visit us at archives.chq.org, Facebook, Twitter, or 52 South Ave., Chautauqua, NY.
Tips for Searching
- The Keyword Search button allows you to perform a general search across multiple fields for any catalog records online.
- The Advanced Search button can help you be more specific with your search. You can search for a word or phrase within a particular search category or use multiple categories to further narrow down your search results.
- The Random Images button is a great way to just browse the collection. Each Random Images page displays a random assortment of images from the records online. If something piques your interest, click the thumbnail to view a larger version of the image.
- The Archives, Photos, or Objects specific buttons allow you to only search items that are of that particular collection.
