Description |
Auditorium in Grove--Chautauqua, N.Y. 1878. Stereo View on 7"x4" card frame, showing the improved speakers' stand in the Auditorium. There are rows of new benches in the foreground, and two men and chairs are upon the stage. No organ or piano is visible. A canvas appears to be strung above the benches among the tree branches. The lower part of the image is cut off, along with the title. Scene is identified as the opening of the fifth assembly, in 1878. Notation on back: The replacement of the original speakers' stand and new seats with backs. The seats face the lake and go back twoard the hill as far as MIller Cottage./ See Chautauqua Assembly Herald Aug-9-1878 page 4-col 1 for a picture of this description.
