Description |
John Vincent's Cottage. c. 1890. B&W print photo, 7½ x 9½" showing the front face of the Vincent Cottage and the enclosed porch. Three individuals sit on the front porch steps; Elizabeth Dusenbury Vincent, holding most likely her grandchild, and Louise Vincent. Text: Rev. Vincent in the very early days occupied a tent near the Arcade. The Board of Trustees built this cottage and tent as a gift to Mrs. Vincent. Elizabeth Dusenbury Vincent, holding one of her grandchildren, is sitting on the porch. The younger woman is believed to be her daughter-in-law Louise, wife of George. The Bishop had tennis courts built just below the cottage and taught the game, which he had seen in London. It was one of the first courts in the U.S. The home was torn down many years later and a Memorial Garden was put in by the Bird and Tree Garden Club. It is on South Lake Ave [Drive]. Updated 2019 |
