Description |
Chestnut Tree Ceremony. 1927. B&W print photo, 8"x10", showing costumed participants in the ceremony giving "last rites" to a chestnut tree which had been in the Arts and Crafts quadrangle. Ceremony put on by the Bird and Tree Club, Arts and Crafts School, and Library School. Costumed characters included: the High Priest, The Soul of the Tree, the Spirits of Fire and Wind, the soul of the Good Brown Earth, the messengers of the Sun and Seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, druids, and the Spirit of Joyce Kilmer. Lake visible in the background. |
