Description |
Lake Festival. c.1922. B&W print photo, 8"x10", showing a large group of performers on the built platform stage at the pier at night. Appears to be from the three day Lake Festival in the first week of August, although it is unclear which night is shown. First night: "From the Shadows of the Past" pageant by Clara Ewing Espey, directed by H. A. Smith. Second night: Venetian Night Carnival. Third night: Dance and Maze of Lanterns. Possibly showing the participating band and choral groups all pictured together, although it seems the band, and at least one of the chorus's performed on boats off stage. Although the notation on the back reads "1910? First Water Pageant," the Chautauquan Daily specifies that 1922 Festival was the one with "electric illumination," as pictured here. |
